The UK Statistics Authority, a Government department has criticised misleading residents claiming to have Frozen Council Tax while bills will all be rising 2.5% – a combination of the Greater London Authority charge and local Merton Council increase.
Previously the council had actually frozen Council Tax and have even reduced Council Tax, but being an election year then Labour Administration has told the council to make a false statement on social media and printed in the InMerton magazine with a 90,000 copy distribution. The March 2026 edition has changed from the normal format to a council tax paid 44 page propaganda pamphlet.
The Times reported the news that both Labour councils, Merton and Wandsworth had claimed the lie using council funds.
