Merton’s Climate Action Group 27 January 2021

On Wednesday 27 January 2021 Merton Council will be launching the Climate Action Group from 6:30 pm seeking to make Merton net-zero carbon by 2050.

Merton’s Climate Strategy & Action Plan was approved by Full Council in November 2020. This sets out the pace and scale of change needed to become a net-zero carbon borough by 2050. With over 98% of the borough’s emissions outside the Council’s direct control, local residents, businesses, and organisations have a huge role to play.

The purpose of Merton’s Climate Action Group will be to develop community-led projects that reduce Merton’s greenhouse gas emissions, where joint efforts are more effective than the actions of individuals or the Council alone.

The group will support and foster community-led action by encouraging positive networks of people from all parts of the borough, and all walks of life, whose combined resources, skills, and expertise can successfully develop and implement projects which reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

This meeting will be the official launch of the group and we encourage anyone who’s interested in getting involved and JOIN the online meeting.

About Merton Council

Merton Council used to have a closed attitude to Council Meetings, but after pressure from Merton.TV they now publish a handful of meetings a year. However, under the COVID-19 lockdown, the Democratic Services have really put in a lot of hard work to unlock democracy and Livestream meetings.
